So I’m insulating the workshop.

It’ll help a little this winter, and a lot next summer.

Nice! I need to insulate the north wall in my garage, it’s the only unfinished wall. I want to work on the car during winter, so I need to invest in a heater as well.

I’ll eventually need to insulate my garage. Don’t mind me asking, but I’m kind of curious about some of the details:
- What kind of insulation are you using?
- How deep are your walls? (from the pic above, I’m guessing at least 2x6 with 16" centers?)
- Do you plan on insulating the roof as well?
- What’s the approximate cost?

I’m using Owens Corning Pink EcoTouch fiberglass insulation. I bought it in the R-19 faced batt format for 2x6 walls. The batts are 6.25" thick, 15" wide and 93" long.

The walls are indeed 2x6 on 16" centers, so the 6.25" thick insulation fits nicely. I will be installing a ceiling and insulating the space above it (planning on using blow-in).

The insulation is $36/package and one covers 77.5 sq ft of wall, so figure out your wall area and do the math giving yourself a little overage for waste from the inevitable cuts where you have to thrown some material away. Also, if you buy more than 15 packages in one shot at Home Depot, you trigger the bulk discount and the per each price drops to $25.19/pkg.
